Using specialised auditory equipment and wireless headphones, the Tomatis Method plays electronically modified music and speech at specific frequencies to stimulate certain parts of the ear.
Using wireless headphones equipped for both air and bone conduction sound is transmitted through air via the ear canal. It is also transmitted by tiny vibrations at the top of the headset. This vibration is called bone conduction and transmits the sound directly to the inner ear, preparing it to receive the sound transmitted through the eardrum. Experience bone conduction by placing your hands over your ears and talking.
As these areas respond to the stimulation, so to do the corresponding areas in the brain and nervous system. In turn, this can lead to an improvement in auditory, visual and motor functions which had not previously been receiving the correct level of stimulation and signals from the brain.
Classical music, such as Mozart, waltzes and marches, and even Gregorian chants, are heard through a special headset that transmits sound and acoustic vibration from the music through the air and via bone conduction.
The music is modified by the Tomatis Listening Device known as TalksUp® to re-educate the ear and awaken the person’s listening skills. TalksUp® is an electronic device that allows the user to follow individualised passive and/or active listening sessions and is equipped with Tomatis Gating which allows the processing of music and your voice in real time.
The Forbrain is a unique patented technology and functions as an audio-vocal workout. The moment you speak the device corrects the sound of your voice via a dynamic filter.
The sounds are immediately transmitted back to you via bone conduction, in other words through vibration. You will not hear an echo but rather you will hear your voice differently.
The fact that the filter is dynamic explains that it is continually activating and de-activating the sounds that you are making. It is programmed to amplify high frequencies and soften low frequencies and is triggered by the initial articulation of words and by the pronunciation of long vowels. It highlights the so called “bright sounds” which play a very significant role in language development.
This extremely sensitive filter enables you to hear your corrected voice and it is constantly shifting. There is no pattern and with the unpredictability of this it keeps the brain alert and develops attention mechanisms.
The overall outcome is that the voice becomes more rhythmic, more resonant and more harmonious. By correcting the perception of your voice, the way you speak is corrected naturally and without conscious effort. This is known as the AUDIO VOCAL LOOP. Forbrain® works simultaneously on all parts of the audio-vocal-loop and gives the nervous system an excellent sensory workout.
There is much peer-reviewed research taking place around the world at the moment on the Forbrain®. I have included two but there are many more on the internet.

The music is very much rhythmical with 3 different tempos (For example, Tempo 2 for the marches). Each day is a mix of those tempos to avoid routine for the brain.
By opposition to Tomatis®, the gating is designed to be less strong and also easily predictable for the brain. The idea is not to challenge the brain as we do with unpredictable sound contrasts of the Tomatis® Method which is aimed at listening attention.
Rhythm is really important for movement and coordination. Click here for more explanation.
The bone conduction is not designed to work with precession as in the Tomatis® Method but rather favours low frequencies to stimulate the entire vestibular system and therefore encourages rhythm.
As mentioned before, the sound contrasts are less strong and the high frequencies do not have the same impact on the Cochlea system, since the purpose is not to increase energy but to impact whole-body movement.
Physiologically, it is quite different from the Tomatis® Method and can be considered as a complementary approach.
It does not pretend to get the same results as we can get with Tomatis® but this approach might be powerful for people with vestibular problems. Concerns Autism, Sensory Integration disorders, (often experienced as we age) Auditory Processing Disorders who also might have underlying vestibular problems.
It is true that in some cases the Soundsory® enables to maintain the stimulation on the vestibule while bringing enough cortical energy. Soundsory® could also be used to continue the stimulation created by the Tomatis® work during the break periods thus helping with integration.
This could also help during the breaks between the Tomatis® phases. As it will keep the simulation created by the Tomatis® work going.
I hope this explanation helps and please contact us for more information on this groundbreaking technology. This link will bring you to the setting instructions.
NOTE: You have to order that from me (Jennifer Muller). Soundsory does not ship to Australia.
Happy listening!
